Short Bio


I am Professor of Applied Microeconomics at the University of St. Gallen, where I have served as Head of the Department of Economics since 2023 and Dean of the School of Economics and Political Science since 2025. I received my PhD in Economics from the University of St. Gallen in 1999 and my Habilitation in Economics from the University of Zurich in 2006.

Before joining the University of St. Gallen as an SNSF Professor in 2007, I was a Senior Research Associate at the University of Zurich and a Visiting Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business. I have also held visiting appointments at the University of Florida, Duke University, and Vanderbilt University. From 2005 to 2015, I served as an Independent Member and later Vice President of the Swiss Competition Commission.

My research focuses on industrial organization, competition policy, game theory, and behavioral economics, with applications to digital markets, sustainability, and regulation.
