Short Bio


I am Professor of Applied Microeconomics (since 2012) and Head of the Department of Economics at the University of St. Gallen (since 2023). I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of St. Gallen (1999) and a Habilitation in Economics from the University of Zurich (2006). Prior to joining the faculty in St. Gallen as a SNSF professor (2007), I was a Senior Research Associate at the University of Zurich (1999-2007) and a Visiting Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (2006-2007). I served as an Independent Member (2005-2010) and Vice President (2010-2015) of the Swiss Competition Commission, and as Managing Director (2013-2023) of the Institute of Economics at the University of St. Gallen (FGN-HSG). In 2016 and 2018, I was a Visiting Research Scholar at Duke University.
