Short Bio


I am Professor of Applied Microeconomics (since 2012), Head of the Department of Economics (since 2023), and Dean of the School of Economics and Political Science (since 2025) at the University of St. Gallen. I hold a PhD in Economics from the University of St. Gallen (1999) and a Habilitation in Economics from the University of Zurich (2006). Prior to joining the faculty in St. Gallen as a SNSF professor (2007), I was a Senior Research Associate at the University of Zurich (1999-2007) and a Visiting Professor at the Vienna University of Economics and Business (2006-2007). I served as Independent Member (2005-2010) and Vice President (2010-2015) of the Swiss Competition Commission, and as Managing Director (2013-2023) of the Institute of Economics at the University of St. Gallen (FGN-HSG). I was a Visiting Research Scholar at the University of Florida (1998), Duke University (2016 and 2018), and Vanderbilt University (2024).
